This is the fourth measurement within the profile monitoring research program of the Center for Applied Research "TALAP", launched in 2020.
The initial studies included an overview of the economic, political, social, and informational aspects of the perception of China in Kazakhstan. In 2022, only an economic analysis was conducted, and no public opinion survey was carried out. Starting from 2023, the monitoring project became part of the Center's own monitoring program "TALAP" and was divided into economic and sociological components.
The 2024 study utilized four main data sources:
- A public opinion survey conducted in October 2024. A total of 1204 people aged 18 and older were surveyed across all regions of the country. The sample represents the population of Kazakhstan by gender, age, urban and rural population ratio, and regional distribution (for detailed description see Appendix 1).
- Focus group studies conducted by the Center "TALAP" in 14 regions of Kazakhstan, with 152 participants, including questions about the perception of different countries.
- Results of global surveys on the perception of China in various countries around the world.
- Analytical publications on the perception of China in Kazakhstan, prepared based on the studies.
The report includes the following sections:
- Dynamics of global indicators, based on which Kazakhstan's position on the world map of the perception of China was identified.
- Overview of studies on the perception of China in Kazakhstan, which allowed to strengthen and confirm the conclusions drawn from our research.
- Calculation of the index of perception of China in Kazakhstan and detailed analysis of 31 variables on which it is based.
- Analysis of geographical differences and identification of the main factors determining them.
- Assessment of international projects implemented in the country, including analysis of relevant cases.
- Construction of a matrix of foreign brands operating in Kazakhstan, their recognition and evaluation by the population.
- Promising areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and other countries. China's place on the prospective development map.
