Analysis of China's Economic Strategy and Foreign Policy in Kazakhstan, 2022

For more than three decades, China has amazed the world with the rapid pace of its economic growth. Back in the 1970s, the Chinese economy was primarily agrarian and based on a command-administrative system; however, as a result of successive market reforms, the economic landscape of the Middle Kingdom has dramatically transformed. By now, China has taken one of the leading positions among the world's industrial powers. In nominal GDP terms, China has long been the second-largest economy in the world, and since 2014, its economy has held the first place in GDP by purchasing power parity.

In 2022, the Public Fund "Center for Applied Research TALAP" conducted its second study on China, the results of which are reflected in this report. The study focused on the following aspects of Chinese foreign policy and Kazakhstan-China relations:

• the mechanisms of the PRC's foreign policy and international experience of interaction with China in the world
• China's economic presence in Kazakhstan;
• information coverage of China's activities in Kazakhstan;
• the formation of the Index of Perception of China in Kazakhstan;
• issues of partnership between Kazakhstan and China.
